the mercury was tipped to reach the high 30 ̊ c mark yesterday
we figured that every man and his dog would flock to the beach and so we made the decision to turn our backs on the traffic jam and head for the hills.
our little family of four and the dog made our way to Hanging Rock
70 kms north of Melbourne and a world away from the city.
the climb is quite an easy one. the rock is 718 metres above sea level. on such a warm day with dog in sling it took us about 45 minutes to reach the summit.
the panoramic view is well worth it.
p.s.iphone5 i love your camera
the rock is steeped in legend and folklore such as the famous Joan Lindsay story of the picnic at hanging rock detailing the story of the disappearance of a young teacher and three schoolgirls. it is quite difficult to track down a definitive answer as to whether the story is fact or fiction. it seems that there are no records of the existence of the girls or their disappearance on valentines day in 1900. it is however a great yarn and adds to the mystique of the rock.
there is something about spending time together in the bush that just sit well with us, in spite of a mildly grumpy and melodramatic teenage girl who complains incessantly about headaches and severe dehydration.
we like to poke around rocks and bush,
spotting the occasional lizard adds to the enjoyment for some.
the photo opportunities are prolific and as a result i seem to lag behind the rest of the party and i was constantly losing them or losing my way.
at 1030 this morning the outside temperature is 33 ̊ c and is tipped to reach 41 ̊ c, so more sedentary pursuits are planned with the air conditioner cranked.
You guys are getting our heat...the cool will be back I promise....our teenage girl would have had the same complaints but it looks like it was well worth it. I love that mysterious story growing up. ..and how cute is your doggy in the sling? xxx
