i'm playing along with pip's meme this week. the theme queens have been choosing very cool topics for the weekly theme and this weeks is no exception. it is cleverly brought to you by toni from little suitcase
we live in a very old (120 years) house that we are in the final stages of renovating. as such it is now quite short of quirky and unusual features as they have mostly been replaced by up to date essential things that work. thanks to the god of old houses.
and so after some deliberation i chose this rather unusual feature in our hallway. it is in fact a cabinet of Netsuke. essentially they are small toggles that were worn on the robes of Japanese men in the 17th century and are principally carved from ivory. the political incorrectness of these objects is two fold. one that they are carved from ivory, although our defense is that we only buy old Netsuke that were carved many years before our birth and secondly these intricate carvings often have very detailed anatomical features.
hence, my reason for choosing them as the subject of this post. they are so delicate and amazingly beautiful as far as the workmanship in the carving goes that people will notice them immediately. it is when they examine them more carefully that they will either scream or exclaim "wow, that's noice, that's different, that's unooshooal".
